Below are details of The South Cleveland Heart Fund Recent Major Expenditure to your excellent LOCAL HEART UNIT:

Total expenditure to date: £ 827,500

Workstation to enable Cardiac MRI scanning.

£70000 Workstation to enable Cardiac MRI scanning.

This workstation was necessary to allow Cardiac MRI Scanning ? analysing and reporting a scan while the next scan is being performed.

 

Nav- X ; for treatment of heart rhythm disorders in Cath Lab.

£110000 Nav- X ; for treatment of heart rhythm disorders in Cath Lab.

Following a request for support a Nav X machine was purchased which is for the best possible diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm abnormalities in the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory by our Electrophysiology Consultants. It considerably reduces procedure time in the Cath Lab making it more comfortable for the patient.

 

Portable Echocardiograph Machine and Transoesophageal Probe.

Purchase of new equipment to enhance the service within the Cardiothoracic unit.Utilising improved technology enabling smaller machines to be used at the bedside where necessary

 

Purchase of the first Drug Eluting Stents for our unit.

£35000 Purchase of the first Drug Eluting Stents for our unit.

To enable interventional cardiologists to use them before they became widely accepted in clinical practice. Our support helped pioneer this new technology and they are now in everyday use.

 

Treadmill for Exercise Testing in Coronary Care Unit (out of hours).

£25000 Treadmill for Exercise Testing in Coronary Care Unit (out of hours).

For chest pain patient assessments by Coronary Care staff at weekends, when the Cardiac Investigation Unit is closed.Enables safe patient discharge over weekends.

 

Exercise Equipment for heart failure and preoperative assessment.

£30000 Exercise Equipment for heart failure and preoperative assessment.

Special exercise equipment that measures oxygen consumption in sick patients and those waiting for surgery to assess cardiac reserve and appropriate treatment.

 

Bursaries for Registrars for research + training.

£150000 Bursaries for Registrars for research + training.

Bursaries to allow Junior Doctors in training to gain experience elsewhere (e.g. Australia) on a year out of programme. Enhance training of the Doctors to become Consultants.

 

Drain equipment for rapid healing of problem chest wounds at home.

£15000 Drain equipment for rapid healing of problem chest wounds at home.

To allow people with chest wound infections to go home sooner and be treated there, increasing patient comfort and saving hospital bed time.

 

Research on Coronary Risk factors , and Acute Heart Failure markers.

£20000 Research on Coronary Risk factors , and Acute Heart Failure markers.

Looking at patients with severe heart attacks and heart failure measuring substances in the blood to assist in prognosis.

 

Advanced Patient Monitor for Catheter Laboratory use during deep sedation procedures.

£7500 Advanced Patient Monitor for Catheter Laboratory use during deep sedation procedures.

To allow careful assessment and monitoring of patients during deep sedation while undergoing cardiac catheterisation procedures.

 

Music systems for O/P Department and Catheterisation Laboratories.

£5000 Music systems for O/P Department and Catheterisation Laboratories.

Equipment facilitating patient relaxation and comfort during procedures.

 

Enabling the percutaneous aortic valve replacement (TAVI) programme.

£60000 Enabling the percutaneous aortic valve replacement (TAVI) programme.

To pump prime the TAVI programme for our Doctors to get trained in the technique. This has now become an NHS funded procedure and there are on average 60 per year at The James Cook University Hospital Cardiothoracic unit which is recognised as being at the cutting edge of this technology.
