A TWITCHER IS BORN,
WOODPECKERS, BRICK OUTHOUSE.
(And other Birdwatching Tales)
Around 25 years ago I started writing articles or short stories for the local RSPB group Newsletter. Occasionally I have been complemented on my articles, which led me to consider trying to publish my collected articles.
On 20th July 2016 and again on August 20th 2016 I had problems with my heart; arrhythmia. The Cardiothoracic Unit At James Cook Hospital saved my life with their prompt action. Whilst in hospital, sleep was very difficult, and as I lay in the middle of the night, trying to think of matters other than my predicament, I hit upon the idea of having my collected articles published in book form in support of the South Cleveland Heart Fund.
Twenty-six years ago I had aserious heart attack, requiring resuscitation at South Cleveland (now JamesCook University) Hospital. Some years later I became Treasurer of South Cleveland Heart Fund. This charity in its twenty-two years of existence has raised over £2.5 million for equipment and services for the Cardiothoracic Unit at the hospital; items that the NHS either could not or would not buy. Lately the Fund raised £1 million to refurbish the MRI Scanner facilities for the Cardiothoracic Unit. Serving as Treasurer of the Heart Fund has, I hope, repaid some of the debt I owe to the Cardiothoracic Unit.
So, I have arranged for my collected articles to be published at my own expense. The book should be ready for early December. The publisher advised me that the book would be more attractive if it included photographs. Mark Stokeld very kindly agreed to the inclusion of his photographs and Steve Hunter to some of his drawings. Copies of the book will be available for £12 each (plus £3.50 p&p), with all of the proceeds going to the South Cleveland Heart Fund.
So you may be sure that your £12 will go to a good cause, and thereby give you pleasure, even if you have not enjoyed my stories. But, I DO hope that you enjoy my stories and Mark’s photographs and Steve’s illustrations. There are at least £11.50p’s worth of photographs in the book.
