£1 Million Cardiac MRI Appeal update

News item posted 19-09-2016

Thanks to the amazing generosity of so many, with enormous help from The Gazette`s Campaign, The Sir Jules ThornTrust, Rotary Clubs (£80,000 raised) and Freemasons throughout our Catchment area, we recently completed the £1 Million Cardiac MRI Appeal - a collaboration with the Hospital Trust to upgrade the MRI scanner which does general and specialist Heart scanning to `state of the art`- £450,000 (VAT exempt)- now completed and producing fantastic pictures, and a further £550,000 to assist in the installation of a new replacement Super MRI machine to perform most of the general MRI scans, leaving adequate scanning time on the other machine to meet the Heart Unit demands. This work is nearly completed and should allow an increase from 500 to 1500 Cardiac scans per annum, which will provide a full service to the Regional Heart Unit.

Prior to this the SCHF had already raised £1.3 Million since it was set up in 1994 to help keep our Regional Cardiothoracic Centre Unit at the leading edge of heart care, and now the big Appeal is over, we continue to raise funds exclusively for the Unit to pay for things such as equipment (VAT exempt), pump-priming of new advanced procedures by the Consultants so that the Commissioners will purchase them, training, and research - none of which could be provided by the current NHS.

Funding from the SCHF is focussed on improving Heart Patient Care, and, in the process, help to maintain our World Class Unit`s National and International reputation, continuing to attract top people to work in Teesside`s Regional Cardiothoracic Centre.

None of the SCHF Committee raising these funds are salaried, and as we are volunteers, every penny donated goes to where it was meant to. New members would be most welcome!!

Thanks again to all our supporters,

Dr Adrian Davies, SCHF Chairman and all Committee Members.
